Polyethersulfone is rather difficult to process, requiring high barrel temperatures which must be carefully controlled to prevent degradation.

It is tough having high tensile and impact strengths. Electrically, it is good insulator retaining its low loss factor, good permitivity and high resistivity at temperatures in excess of 200 degC. Polyethersulfone and polyethersulphone shows good resistance to chemical attack, in particular from acids, alkalis, oil and greases, and aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols. It is attacked by ketons, esters and some halogenated hydrocarbons and concentrated sulphuric and nitric acids. The water absorption is low being about 2.3% at saturation.
